Do you think about what drives you to complete your work?
For any task that you wish to excel in, you will need to find ways of persevering at times when it just feels too hard. This is easier to do when you are attentive towards your studies.
What does motivation look like for me?
If you want to do really well, fire up your enthusiasm, not just one day but most days leading up to a deadline or date for the work you are producing.
Jot down your answers to the following questions to clarify what motivation looks like to you:
- When do I feel energised by study?
- Why do/don't I have enough drive to inspire me to study when I don’t feel like it?
- How do I find ways to fire my enthusiasm for a task even when I don’t want to do it?
If your responses suggest that you don't know how to motivate yourself, or that you are not always energised, inspired and motivated at the idea of sitting down to study tasks, this is typical of most people.
Acknowledge how you feel. Then work out how you will shift your energy so you fire yourself up to get the task done well. You can start by choosing one of the suggestions outlined below.

Doing well is like training for a championship race
Your speed on the day depends on the spark of inspiration you found to put in extra training. That is, day after day, both when you felt like it and when you really didn’t want to.
These suggestions are ways to help you understand your desires and what drives you in moments that you feel demotivated.
