ecological validity |
The extent to which the findings of a research study can be generalised to real-life settings. |
edit |
To change a draft text by rewriting parts of it, restructuring, correcting or amending it in some other way. |
effective learning |
A relevant, well-planned approach to study that delivers the most benefit in the time you have available. |
ellipsis |
A sequence of three evenly spaced dots (…) used to show the position of words that have been omitted. |
essay |
A piece of writing on a subject that follows academic conventions to present an argument in a convincing way. In academic study, essays are often written in response to a title selected by your teacher/lecturer. |
essay-based questions |
Exam questions that require you to write short essays based on a subject set by your course leader. They will require you to prove your knowledge on a subject. |
evaluate |
Assess the worth, importance or usefulness of something, using evidence. |
evidence |
Facts or information that shows that a particular belief, idea or situation is true. |
example |
An item that can represent a large group of similar items or that illustrates an idea. |
experiment |
A procedure, often scientific, undertaken in order to test a hypothesis, to establish a fact, or to discover something. |
