Term Description
learning outcome

A statement of what the student is expected to learn as the result of a specific section of supported study.

level descriptor

A general description of what is required for student work overall at a given level of education. Learning descriptors contain valuable indications about what your tutors will be looking for when they mark your work.

line of reasoning

An argument comprising a series of reasons that, taken in a specific order, lead to a particular conclusion.

linear notes

Notes in which one item follows another, in order down the page.
compare nuclear notes; pattern notes

linear plan

The content of a written assignment and the order in which this will be discussed, set out in the form of a list.

literature review

A summary of the literature you referred to and how it shaped your aims, thinking and the way you conducted your project.

literature search

The process of finding out what’s been written about a subject and beginning to identify what will be useful to your research.
